Mary facilitated two recent NOLS expeditions, backpacking with NASA-CHAPEA and canyoneering with Robertson Scholars in Summer, 2022
I was invited to be a wilderness expedition leader for the NASA Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) (July, 2022). NASA CHAPEA is an analog mission that simulates year-long stays on the surface of Mars. The mission consists of four crew members living in an isolated 1,700 square foot habitat. My role, as the NOLS expedition leader, was to facilitate a challenging outdoor learning and growth experience for the seven individuals who were the finalists from the original 4000 applicants.
